“Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good."

June 23
The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Just as I was taking some chicken out of the freezer for dinner, my daughter Amber-Rose called. She was at home with no vehicle, no much food in her pantry and her husband was out delivering for post-mates to make a few dollars. So I pulled out a little more chicken and picked her up. We shared a meal together and decided to watch a movie. My granddaughter chose Narnia. I love those stories! I still remember when I first read them to my children. My son Brandon was only six, and as I read the part where Aslan gave His life for Edmund, Brandon said, “Mommy, that’s just like Jesus, Aslan is just like Jesus! I couldn’t believe my little boy could see the deeper meaning in this wonderful tale. I have read these stories more than once, and love them every time. I love Aslan. This fierce, strong lion. Mr. Beaver says “Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good." Watching the movie last night, as I saw Lucy put her head on Aslan’s and cry because he had died, I wanted to crawl through the screen and join her and her sister, Susan. Since I know Aslan is the symbol of Christ, I understood their love and their loss. When I read the stories or watch the movie I am so drawn to Aslan. His strength, power, and righteousness simply draw me to this beautiful lion. If I could, I would curl up next to him, just to be with him. It is the same with Jesus. I know that Jesus is much more complex than a character in a book. But it is this picture of Jesus that gives me such comfort. Thank you, Lord. It has been a while since I remembered Aslan. Aslan inspires such an ache in my heart, a longing to be close to my Savior.
It is because Aslan is a representation of Christ that I am so drawn to that Lion. Jesus is the Lion of Judah.
