Drywall Mud Is Like Icing

I am so thankful I was able to help my husband put the drywall mud on the walls in the basement kitchen. If you watch videos of professionals doing it, they make it look easy. In a few simple steps, you too can finish your walls. Putting mud on the walls takes a little finesse. So my husband hopped to watch a few experts and he too could do it. When I checked in on him yesterday, I knew he was in trouble. The mud was thick and not feathered to the edge. The surface of the mud was not smooth. Actually, it was rough and had air bubbles. In his defense, this was not a job he was meant to do. Usually, he will screw the drywall in place and I will do all the finishing. Working with drywall mud is kind of like icing. If you've ever tried to put icing on a cake and put it on completely smooth like a professional, you know it's not as easy as it looks. Since I broke my finger, and I'm not supposed to use my left hand, my husband tried to step in and take over my job. It just wasn't working. I tried to give him some tips and help out a little bit, but it just wasn't enough. I am certainly no professional. But if I do it slowly and carefully, I can get a good result. By the time I sand and paint the walls you can't tell where the seams are. My patches and my seams all blend into the wall. My brother on the other hand is an expert, and he's taught me a few tricks. If he could have come to finish this for me he would have. Unfortunately, between COVID (he can't cross the border between Canada and the US) and his busy schedule, we need to get this done ourselves. It honestly feels a little miraculous how much we were able to get done today. I am really tired but relieved. Everything should dry overnight. If my husband sands the walls tomorrow, I just might be able to get them painted. Oops,I keep forgetting I am working with only one hand. Maybe I will see if I can get someone else to do it. Right now I'm just thankful the bulk of the drywall finishing is almost done. If Jesus had not given me the strength, I could not have done it.
