October 31
This morning I received a text message from one of my neighbors. She had sent out a group message to a bunch of us, letting us know about her neighbor. The mom has COVID. The dad and the twin 5-year-olds have tested negative, but they are all in quarantine. Today is Halloween, and this little boy and girl we're not going to be able to go trick-or-treating. It may not seem like a big thing, but to a 5-year-old who has a costume and has been looking forward to this for quite some time, it could be devastating for them. So she asked us if we would be willing to leave candy on the end of our driveway so that the dad could take these two little ones out trick-or-treating at 3:30. It would be long before any other children were out. No one had to be at risk. And these two sweet kids wouldn't have to miss Halloween. I responded immediately. Absolutely! And I watched all morning as neighbor after neighbor responded with a resounding yes! We all put our address in the text message so that she could let this sweet dad know which houses were ready for them. What a thoughtful and caring thing we all got to do. It wasn't my idea, but I was thrilled to be part of it. God works in mysterious ways, even on Halloween. I filled two solo cups with candy and put them on the end of my driveway.
