Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.

It’s learning to dance in the rain.

I took my daughter to Ikea today to pick up a plant ladder she ordered online. The store is still closed due to COVID, but they will let you do curbside pick up. So, we headed off to Ikea and got in line with the rest of the cars. On the sidewalk, a young woman with a walkie talkie was taking our name and order numbers and relaying the information to people inside who were getting it ready to bring out to our cars. The sky was a little cloudy and looked like it could start raining at any moment, but it was still on the warm side. We overheard her talking to someone on the walkie talkie that she could really use some help outside. This was not an ideal job, running back and forth between cars. She could have let it ruin her attitude and her day, but she didn’t. She was out there all by herself doing the job of two people and she was dancing. She was literally dancing. It was such a joy to watch her joy. One of my favorite quotes is:

Life is not about waiting for the rain to pass.

It’s learning to dance in the rain.

And she was dancing. I love this quote and I have tried to live it out. God was reminding me today what It looks like to dance in the rain. She made both my daughter and I smile. We can’t always control what happens to us. Just like she couldn’t control the heat and the rain. But we do have control over our response. She chose to dance. Dancing made the day better. Her response brought life. Her response brought joy, and not just to herself, but to those of us who watched her.
