I love it when God tweaks my thinking as I read His word.

March 22

1 Cor 12 is talking about spiritual gifts. Things like, wisdom, knowledge, faith, and prophecy just to mention a few. Paul makes the comparison of our spiritual gifts, to parts of the body. Spiritual gifts are a part of the body of Christ, like hands and ears are a part of our human bodies. No one part of the body is more important than another. The same is true with the spiritual gifts of the body of Christ. As I am reading I am realizing that I want all the gifts! I want all the gifts of the body. As I come to the end of 1 Corinthians 12 this is what I read.

All are not apostles, are they? All are not prophets, are they? All are not teachers, are they? All are not workers of miracles, are they? All do not have gifts of healings, do they? All do not speak with tongues, do they? All do not interpret, do they? But earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way.

I had to know what is the more excellent way? I turn the page and there it is. I should have known. I have studied 1 Corinthians 13. I love 1 Corinthians 13. It's the love Chapter. If I have all these gifts and do not have love, it prophets me nothing. It prophets the body nothing. All the gifts will be done away with one day. These gifts need to be born out of Love, practiced in love, and shared in love. Remember, the greatest of these is Love! The greatest gift is love. I desire the greater gift. As I was reading today I wanted more. Then God showed me I already had the greatest. I would still really love to have the gift of healing and any other He would choose to bestow on me, but I am content with love.
