Focus on principle not legacy

I almost missed the Global Leadership Summit this year. My son asked if I was going, but I hadn’t heard about how or when it was going to happen during this COVID pandemic. Yesterday he called his friend who told him it was tomorrow, and then made a phone call to see if we could sign up. Not only did we get signed up, but we also got a discount. God made sure I didn’t miss it and took care of all the details for me. Yesterday when all this was put in place, I was in bed with a migraine. I didn’t need to do anything at all. I simply got up this morning, grabbed a cup of coffee with my son, and headed to church. We met with a small group of people watching the live streaming. It was so nice to be together and hear some inspiring speakers. The highlight of the day for me was a special interview with George W Bush. Hearing our former president talk about honor, humility and his faith was so encouraging. The fact that he reads his bible every day and did so while he was in office lets you know what his principals are. He was asked about his faith and the Gospel in politics. He said the purpose of the Gospel is to create unity, to feed the poor, and care for one another. If you are not doing that, it is not about the gospel. When he said to focus on principle not legacy, I knew I wanted to remember that for my life. If you focus on your principles and what is right, your legacy will follow. I cannot control what someone in the future will determine my legacy to be. At that point, I will be gone. If I focus on my principles and being true to myself, and my faith, then my legacy will follow. My principles will build my legacy. If I reverse the order and focus on what my legacy will be, it would be easy to compromise my principles for a possible outcome. It would be like gaining the whole world and yet lose your soul.
