I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

August 5
It was raining tonight. I didn’t get to pray this morning so I stayed up to pray tonight. I could see the lightning through my closed eyes. Then the thunder started. My daughter came down out of bed. I paused my prayer time and we stood just outside and watched the lightning and listened to the thunder. The lightning flashed and lit up the whole sky for just a moment. There were a few lightning bolts but mostly it was a flash of light. Then would come the thunder. Not just a loud crack, it rolled. The sound was booming as if it was rolling through the sky. I have not heard thunder like that too often in my life. It made me think of the power and majesty of God, and somehow I am wrapped in the embrace of the thunder. We stood outside for a little while just mesmerized by the sights and sounds of the storm. There wasn’t much rain, so we could really enjoy the show God was putting on.
When I came back in to finish praying I thought of my favorite uncle’s, favorite Hymn, How Great Thou Art. I can still hear Him singing it. He is in Heaven now, and I think of Him often. He would have loved tonight.
Oh. Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds thy hands have made.
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art.
